Coloratura

Life and beauty
from pain and loss.

bonart begins where life has left its mark. Joel Kelley works directly on animal bone—layering paint, pencil, pen, marker and metallic detail by hand. Every fracture, asymmetry and weathered edge remains part of the composition.

The work draws on Cherokee and Chickasaw family heritage, survival and second chances. Organic form meets graphic precision. Order gives way to chaos. The object carries its past forward.

Authentic Materials. Original Artistry.

Every bonart original is a physical, one-of-a-kind artwork created by Joel Kelley on genuine animal bone. Years of exposure to the elements leave each piece with its own character—weathered surfaces, natural variations, fractures, and traces of a previous life. Kelley works directly on these surfaces by hand, often devoting many hours to painstaking detail and creative exploration. The bone is not a replica, and the artwork applied to it is not AI-generated.

Dimensions, weight, and mounting or display considerations vary with each original. Please inquire for details about a particular work or artist-authorized reproduction options across selected materials, substrates, textures, and finishes. Reproductions are distinct interpretations of the original artwork, not replicas of the physical sculpture.

AI-generated environments and visual treatments are used to suggest architectural settings, display possibilities, and creative applications. These images are conceptual presentations—not photographs of actual installations—and should not be relied upon for exact scale, mounting details, or material appearance.

No. 03

Ode

Mixed media on animal bone

The dark does not win.

Blackness holds the form. A blade of electric color breaks through it—bright, precise, impossible to bury. Ode is not a memorial to what was lost. It is proof that something remained.

A hymn written against extinction.

Auspices

Mixed media on animal bone

The future leaves a mark before it arrives.

Bone becomes a threshold. Turquoise rises through ivory like weather breaking over an ancient map, while antlers reach outward—half inheritance, half invocation. Auspices does not predict what comes next. It asks whether we are awake enough to recognize it.

An omen made visible.

TC Subtraction

Mixed media on animal bone

Nothing missing is ever empty.

Color surges around every break and hollow. TC Subtraction turns loss into architecture: what has been removed gives shape to what endures. The fractured silhouette does not diminish the form. It sharpens it. Absence becomes edge. Edge becomes direction.

What is taken away reveals the form.
